Unforgotten Season 3
Nicola Walker in her best role since Spooks. As Cassie Stuart, Nicola is assertive, empathetic, and above all, driven. Her unique relationship with Sunny Khan (Sanjeev Bhaskar) enriches each episode of this 6-part thriller series. The series follows Detective Chief Inspector Cassie Stuart and Detective Sergeant Sunny Khan as they investigate and solve older cases. These are not exactly cold cases because the death of the victim was not consciously known earlier. The victims are only discovered very late, making the investigation more challenging. Forensic evidence is rarely available, and witnesses are not always easy to find. Yet, DCI Stuart and DC Khan unravel the mystery in what proved to be another exciting murder investigation this season.

A Confession
Wiltshire may not seem like an obvious setting for one of the most memorable crime series of the year, but when you base something on a real-life case, you don't have much choice for a location. Not that the modest town of Swindon entirely concealed a confession. This ITV series was truly excellent. In our opinion, the IMDb score is much too low. Many viewers were bothered by the shaky camera work. In our opinion, this was absolutely not disturbing and adds to the feeling of being part of the investigation. A Confession tells the unfortunately all too true story of Detective Superintendent Steve Fulcher - played with impressive restraint by Martin Freeman - and the controversy surrounding the confession he obtained from the killer of Sian O'Callaghan and Becky Godden-Edwards. This very intriguing drama came from the highly acclaimed and award-winning screenwriter Jeff Pope, the man behind other real-life dramas like Pierrepoint, See No Evil: The Moors Murders, and Little Boy Blue.

Killing Eve Season 2
Anyone who watched the first series of Killing Eve would have had fairly high expectations for season 2. And fortunately, they did not disappoint us. In our opinion, the series sagged a bit in the middle and went a little overboard with the characters, but the brilliant dynamic and charisma between Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer are too beautiful to ignore. The absence of writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge was hardly noticeable in season 2. Season 2 was also an absolute recommendation.
IMDb score: 8.3
Line of Duty Season 5
One of our absolute recommendations is the gripping series about the anti-corruption department AC-12. Season 5 might not be the best season so far, but still compelling, nerve-wracking, and exciting until the very last moment. One of the few series where the writers truly make you doubt whether the plot twist means that the leader is actually one of the bad guys. And this rarely happens with us, so we were certainly impressed. Haven't heard of this crime/drama/mystery series before? Then start with season 1. The dynamics and backgrounds of the agents are also important for the viewing pleasure.
IMDb score: 8.6
True Detective Season 3
After a somewhat disappointing second series, Nic Pizzolatto wisely went back to his roots for the final season. It may not have reached the creeping occult creepy feeling of the first season, but it came close. True Detective's third season has a plot like many other thriller series. We've seen enough police investigations into seemingly ritual murders of children. It was especially the acting talent that made the series stand out. Mahershala Ali is not an Oscar winner for nothing, but it's Stephen Dorff who really impresses here. This is a serious return of the series.
IMDb score: 9.0
Dublin Murders
As we just said, there are many crime series focused on ritual murders. This is also the case in the series Dublin Murders. However, this adaptation of Tana French's first two books about Dublin Murder Squad is far from standard. Equally a whodunit murder mystery as an exploration of identity, trauma, and the idea of facing the past, the two central performances of Sarah Greene and Killian Scott here elevate Dublin Murders from excellent to indispensable. So having said that... make sure not to miss it. In our opinion, the IMDb score, like A Confession, does not reflect our experience.
IMDb score: 7.1
Criminal
Criminal is a police procedural consisting of four unique three-part series. You can choose from a British, German, French, or Spanish version, or watch all twelve parts in their different languages. All series take place in a police interview room, making it almost playful. Occasionally, we are treated to flashbacks and step outside the interview room. In the British version, David Tennant plays, and he is certainly above average as an acting talent but not really the best of the quartet. If you only watch one of the quartet, make it Frédéric Mermoud's Criminal: France.
IMDb score: 7.5 (British version)
Mindhunter Season 2
Although the season never quite reaches the level of the first season, these last nine episodes of the Netflix crime thriller, based on the excellent book Mindhunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit by John E Douglas and Mark Olshaker, are still one of the best in the field of crime series. The goal of this series is the profiling and arrest of the man behind the shocking real-life case of the Atlanta Child Murders, Wayne Williams. During the series, he visits, among others, Charles Manson and David ‘Son of Sam’ Berkowitz. As always, the pace and tone of Mindhunter mean that casual viewers may find it a bit boring. But invest in watching from the beginning and learn more about the murderers they deal with, and it's a fascinating insight into the psychopathic mind.
